of Gender-based Violence in Madrid

The Network of Comprehensive Care for Victims of Gender-based Violence of the Region of Madrid is made up of a total of 25 residential centres with more than 313 places distributed distributed in centres of different functions and typologies. This resource constitutes a fundamental service for the comprehensive care of women victims of gender violence, offering different possibilities of accommodation, support, specialised counselling, psychosocial monitoring and help in the different processes of overcoming a situation of violence that women and children have suffered.

The work arises in the context of the entry of the Next Generation European funds, whose objectives are aligned with gender equality, the improvement of universal accessibility, energy efficiency, or the implementation of technological tools to combat the digital divide. whose objectives are aligned with gender equality, the improvement of universal accessibility, energy efficiency, or the implementation of technological tools to combat the digital divide. a diagnosis has been carried out which has allowed the development of a series of criteria and lines of intervention to to improve the conditions of the centres and adapt the spaces to the people who live there, women victims of gender-based violence and their children, as well as the professionals who work there.

The proposed lines of intervention include criteria of a technical nature,related to accessibility or energy efficiency of the spaces and applicable almost universally, and complementarily, criteria of a qualitative and experiential nature developed from participatory fieldwork and designed specifically for the Centres of the Network of Comprehensive Care for Victims of Gender Violence of the Community of Madrid, considering their dimension as spaces for psychosocial rehabilitation.

The identification of the specific needs of this type of resources will also allow the implementation of new centres following recommendations of functional programmes and design criteria that can favour welcoming environments where the psychosocial process carried out is effective. In addition, it offers guidelines for the rehabilitation and refurbishment of buildings that currently present different degrees of deterioration and lack of adaptation to current accessibility and energy efficiency regulations.
